Muirfield

Muirfield 12th Hole

The original course at Muirfield, created by Old Tom Morris, was initially limited by the modest area of land initially leased by the Club. However, by 1922, not only had the leased ground been purchased, an additional 50 acres of links land had also been acquired. A revised Muirfield layout, designed by Harry Colt in 1925, enhanced by Tom Simpson in the 1930’s and refined by Martin Hawtree in 2011, has resulted in an internationally admired golfing challenge which consistently ranks amongst the leading courses in the world.

Archerfield Fidra

Archerfield Fidra

ArcherfieldFidra measures almost 7,000 yards however there are four sets of tees at each hole to allow for varying abilities. Its greens are large and receptive, with subtle borrows to test the best of putters. Dunbar

Dunbar

Well defined holes following the natural contours of a narrow strip of land between the old red sandstone deer park wall and the rocky shoreline are the hallmarks of these links. At a little over 6,500 yards, it is not the longest championship course, but any golfer thinking this equates to a lack of challenge will soon be put right. This is a course built upon those old fashioned golfing virtues of club selection and shot-making. With the ever-present – and ever-changing – wind off the sea, it demands accuracy and judgement, and rewards only bravery and skill.

Gullane No.2

Gullane No 2 7th Hole

At 6,396 yards, No. 2 is shorter than its older sibling but provides an equally stern test.Laid out by the two time Open championship winner Willie Park Jr in 1898, Gullane No. 2 runs alongside No. 1 for the first seven holes before sweeping down to a nature reserve next to Aberlady Bay. The course turns towards home from the 13th tee with the prevailing wind, down Gullane Hill back to the new Gullane Links Clubhouse (opened June 2021). The beauty of the East Lothian coastline and the challenge of the layout create an unforgettable round that epitomises links golf in Scotland. In particular, Gullane No. 2 is renowned for the challenge of its short holes embodied by the 215-yard, par three 11th with its wonderful views, testing downhill tee shot and tricky club selection.

The Links were designed by Willie Park Jr. and Ben Sayers, with minor modifications over the years. The 1st hole, a par 3 is due north, followed by 3 holes into the prevailing wind. The 2nd hole is the only par 5, but it can play more like a 6 or 7.
