Golf in Fife.
The Kingdom of Fife - home and heart of the Royal and Ancient game - with the golfing Mecca of St Andrews at its heart - is without doubt one of the premier destinations in world golf. There are 45 courses on this small peninsula which sits just over the world-famous Forth Bridges from Edinburgh, and they all offer a warm welcome to visiting golfers.
Golf in Fife has been a part of life for over 500 years. Where else can you play a New Course that is over 100 years old ? So called when it was opened in 1895 to distinguish it from its neighbour the Old Course, which seems to have been there for ever. Just along the coast are the world acclaimed Kingsbarns and the 2 superb courses at St Andrews Bay, the Devlin and Torrance. And near Scotlands ancient capital, Dunfermline, you have the new Forrester Park Resort which provides a parkland contrast to the links courses of the East Neuk of Fife and St Andrews.
Between East and West Fife are a host of fabulous courses to satisfy the requirements of golfers of all abilities and tastes. Offering a stiff test are the Open Qualifying courses of Leven, Lundin Links, Ladybank and Scotscraig which provide traditional links and heathland golf of the very highest standard. Of an equally high standard is a day spent at Crail Golfing Society, the seventh oldest golf club in the world, which offers the sweeping new Craighead course and the much loved and wonderful Balcomie Links. Jewel in the crown of Golf in Fife, and of golf the world over, is of course, St Andrews. St Andrews Links is the largest golf complex in Europe with six golf courses, including three championship courses - the New Course, the Jubilee Course and last but not least the Old Course itself. 2 miles inland from St Andrews, sitting in an elevated setting with majestic views, is the Dukes, which is a classic championship scottish inland course providing a contrast to the links of St Andrews. Those of you who share our fascination for the history of this great game should also pay a visit to the British Golf Museum in St Andrews. Golf is everyones game in the Kindom of Fife. It is indeed the home of golf, and whether it is your 1st visit or 51st, you will be at home on the courses and receive a very warm welcome.
